La Poste and Monnaie de Paris are distributing today the first coin of the “Gold and Silver Euros” in 1000 Post-Offices (at least one per Department): the 5€ silver, with a mintage of 2 million coins.
This range underlines the come-back of precious metal circulating coins in limited mintage.
La Poste also proposes from today until 30th September a subscription for 15 000 100€ gold coins, available in a selection of Post-Offices in metropolitan France.
“Gold and Silver Euros” available from today on…
Three denominations are to be launched this year: the 5€ silver coin (available from now on), the 100€ gold coin (subscription from now until 30th September 2008 for a delivery from 24th November), the 15€ silver coin (available from 15th September 2008).
In 2009, three additional coins will be launched: 10€ silver, 25€ silver and 250€ gold. The range will be complete in 2010, with the launching of the two last coins: 50€ silver and 500€ gold. In total, this range will be of eight denominations, exactly like the circulating euros (1c to 2€).

An original gift, rare and precious…
These precious metal euros are legal tender in France. Anybody can purchase something with them.
But also offer them and keep them as collector coins. Their modern design uses the traditional theme of the sower, reminding the franc.
Nevertheless this sower is walking in the XXIst Century: each of the eight denominations has a different pose. When gathered, the eight denominations represent a sort of comic-strip where the gesture of the sower is depicted.
The Gold and Silver Euros are thus allying rarity of the precious metal, a contemporary design and a true value for exchange or hoarding

The 5€ and 15€ silver coin can be found in the change given by agents of the post offices if customers accept or request it. The customers of La Banque Postale willing to withdraw cash can also have the opportunity to discover those coins. In both case, a maximum of three 5€ coins and one 15€ coin will be allowed to each customer, due to the limited edition. Not so numerous, the gold denominations are sold through a subscription at the post office.
