Description: The commemorative €2 coin pays tribute to a major event in the history of France - the Appeal of 18th June 1940 made by General de Gaulle on the BBC from London which was the origin of the French Resistance. On the obverse is a design inspired by the photograph taken of the Appeal being made on 18th June in the radio studio in London. It shows General de Gaulle in uniform, reading the Appeal. RF has shrewdly been inserted into the image, which also features a typical microphone of the period. The reverse is the same as the standard reverse side of the current €2 coin.
