Nun gut.

"The Span of Unity”.
The Vision
The design, titled “The Span of Unity”, celebrates Ireland’s eighth Presidency of the Council of the European Union. As its heart is the Samuel Beckett Bridge, a landmark that serves as a Multi-layered metaphor for Ireland’s role in the European project.
Symbolic Elements
The Bridge as a link: the bridge represents Ireland’s geographic and political connection to the European continent. It symbolizes the transition of leadership and the building of consensus between the member states.
The Harp Hybrid
The bridge’s cable-stayed architecture intentionally evokes the Irish Harp, the national symbol of Ireland. This hybrid approach honors Ireland’s traditional identity while showcasing its modern architectural progress.
The Map of Europe
Subtly textured in the background, the map illustrates the destination of the “bridge”, placing Ireland (represented by the bridge’s pylon) as a vital anchor on the western edge of a unified Europese.
The DNA of Cooperation
The flowing, intertwined line weaving through the bridge cables represents the “shared DNA” of European values (democracy, human rights and the rule of law) which bind the European Union together.
Design description
The design despicts a stylized rendition of the Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin, erving as a sual symbol of Ireland’s national identity and its role as a bridge-builder within the European Union. The Bridge’s unique cabled-stayed structure, which evokes the form of a traditional Celtic Harp, spans from left to right, symbolizing progress and forward-looking leadership.
Arcing along the upper edge, the phrase “Uachtaránact an AE” (Presidency of the EU). To the left of the bridge, the inscription “ÉIRE 2026” is anchored in a modern font. To the right, the cables of the bridge seamlessly transistion into a series of interconnected lines that merge with the twelve stars of the European Flag on the outer ring.
