Česká národní banka vyhlásila listopadu 2009 celostátní neomezenou anonymní soutěž na umělecký návrh pamětní stříbrné dvousetkoruny ke 100. výročí prvního dálkového letu Jana Kašpara na trase Pardubice – Praha. Uzávěrka soutěže se uskutečnila dne 12. února 2010. Vyhlášení soutěže bylo veřejné, prostřednictvím ČTK a internetu. Členům Asociace umělců medailérů, uměleckým školám a výtvarníkům, kteří se již účastnili některé soutěže na české pamětní mince a mají o ně nadále zájem, jsou soutěžní podmínky zasílány přímo.

Hodnocení v Komisi pro posuzování návrhů na české peníze proběhlo dne 23. února 2010 za přítomnosti odborného poradce Ing. Dr. Karla Zeithammera. Do soutěže bylo předloženo 35 návrhů, který byly dílem 23 výtvarníků. Návrhy hodnotila Komise pro posuzování návrhů na české peníze ve třech soutěžních kolech. V prvním kole bylo vyřazeno 21 návrhů, a to především pro nepříliš zdařilé portréty Jana Kašpara, nepřesnosti v technickém ztvárnění jeho letadla a výtvarné nedostatky v kompozici, písmu či modelaci. Ve druhém kole získalo základní odměnu šest návrhů, které byly nápaditější a vyznačovaly se vyšší výtvarnou úrovní. Zvýšenou odměnu ve druhém kole obdržely dva návrhy za velmi dobré ztvárnění letadla Jana Kašpara.

Do třetího kola postoupily čtyři návrhy, které byly podle členů komise výtvarně nejzdařilejší a nejlépe vystihovaly zadané téma. První cenu a doporučení k realizaci Komise udělila návrhu MgA. Josefa Šafaříka pro nejoriginálnější řešení lícní i rubové strany návrhu, neotřelé použití negativního písma a celkově esteticky vyplněnou plochu obou stran. Druhou cenu obdržel návrh MgA. Jana Háska za estetické vyznění návrhu a dokonalý soulad písma a reliéfů. Třetí cenu získal návrh slečny Terezy Eisnerové za dobré vystižení doby, ve které Jan Kašpar žil, originální řešení orámovaného písma a vtipné pojetí portrétu. Návrh akademické sochařky Marie Šeborové získal ve třetím kole mimořádnou odměnu.

Bankovní rada o realizaci mince rozhodovala na svém zasedání dne 27. května 2010 potvrdila rozhodnutí komise o realizaci mince podle návrhu MgA. Josefa Šafaříka. Emise mince je naplánována na 27. dubna 2011.

The CNB is issuing a commemorative silver coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the first long-distance flight by Jan Kašpar. The CZK 200 coin will go on sale on 27 April 2011.


The commemorative silver coin celebrates the first long-distance flight in Bohemia. Czech aviation pioneer and aircraft designer Jan Kašpar flew from his home town of Pardubice to Prague in an aeroplane of his own construction.

Jan Kašpar’s aeroplane is the central motif of the commemorative coin. It is depicted in flight on the obverse side. In the lower part is the skyline of Pardubice dominated by the Green Gate. The skyline of Hradčany in Prague is located above the aeroplane. The reverse side of the coin features an aeroplane propeller in phased motion. The coin was designed by Josef Šafařík.

The coin is minted in two quality versions. 7,800 pieces will be produced in normal quality and 11,600 in proof quality with a polished field and a matt relief.

Jan Kašpar (1883–1927) undertook this first long-distance flight on 13 May 1911. It took him almost two hours to reach Prague. His aeroplane is now part of the collection of the National Technical Museum in Prague.

On 13 May 1911 Jan Kašpar undertook his first long-distance flight from Pardubice to Prague. To mark the 100th anniversary of this event, the CNB will issue a CZK 200 commemorative silver coin on 27 April 2011.

The design of the coin was selected in an unlimited anonymous competition, for which 24 designers submitted a total of 35 plaster models. The models were assessed by the Commission for the Evaluation of Designs for Czech Banknotes and Coins, with Karel Zeithammer as expert adviser. The design by Josef Šafařík won the first prize and was recommended for realisation. Second prize was awarded to the design by Jan Hásek and third prize went to the model by Tereza Eisnerová. At its meeting in May 2010 the Bank Board approved the realisation of the coin designed by Josef Šafařík.

The Czech Mint minted coins of silver having a fineness of 0.925 in normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge, while normal-quality coins have milled edges. The coin has a diameter of 31 mm, a weight of 13 g and a thickness of 2.35 mm.

The obverse side of the CZK 200 coin shows Jan Kašpar’s aeroplane in flight. In the lower part is the skyline of Pardubice dominated by the Green Gate. The skyline of Hradčany in Prague is located above the aeroplane. The field of the coin is filled with clouds on the left and right side of the aeroplane and below it. The name of the state in Czech “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” in negative letters is located above the aeroplane. The denomination “200 Kč” is placed above the Pardubice skyline. The mark of the Czech Mint is located in the middle of the Pardubice skyline.

The reverse side of the CZK 200 coin features an aeroplane propeller in phased motion. The text “PRVNÍ DÁLKOVÝ LET JANA KAŠPARA” is written in negative letters around the outer circle. The years 1911 and 2011 (also in negative letters) are situated between the text and the propeller. The initials of the designer of the coin, Josef Šafařík, are located below the right part of the propeller.

Each coin comes with a blue catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
