Order Volleball, the coin belonging to the Sports Coins series, for your collection, as a memento or to give as a gift. The proof-quality Volleyball coin is packaged in a new kind of cardboard packaging with a fresh look.
This coin minted to celebrate volleyball is most beautiful in proof quality. Proof-quality collector coins are minted with a polished die, finished, and placed in a protective clear plastic casing set in a new kind of cardboard package. The coin will best withstand the test of time and remain as a memento in your collection in its original package.
This sports coin with a nominal value of five euros depicts volleyball. The coin's obverse depicts a volleyball flying over the net with the hands of the players reaching out for it. The collector coin's reverse depicts the curve of an athletics stadium, complete with tracks and cheering crowds. All coins in the series will share the same reverse.
This beautiful collector coin is part of the new Sports Coins series, which Mint of Finland will release by decree of the Ministry of Finance in 2015–2016. A total of nine coins paying tribute to different sports are slated for release in the series, with Gymnastics, Basketball, Figure Skating and Volleyball to be launched in 2015 and Ice-Hockey, Skiing, Football, Athletics and Ski Jump in 2016.
Volleyball attracts people of all ages
Volleyball landed in Finland in the 1920s, and the Finnish Volleyball Association was founded in 1959.
According to a national exercise survey carried out in 2009–2010, there were approximately 118,000 amateur volleyball players in Finland. Of this number, roughly 27,000 are 3–18 years of age, 83,000 are aged 19–65 and 8,000 are 66–79 years old. There are 11,500 licensed players, of which 6,900 are youth players.
The world's largest youth volleyball tournament, the Power Cup, is held annually in Finland. Finland fields a total of eight national teams: men, women, boys (3) and girls (3).
