On behalf of the Minister for Finance, on the 18th September 2018 the Central Bank of Ireland will issue a €15 silver proof coin
paying tribute to musician Rory Gallagher. 2018 is the 70th anniversary of the birth of Irish music legend, Rory Gallagher. Born in
Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal and spending much of his life in Co. Cork, the self-taught musician became an internationally
acclaimed folk hero.
The design of the coin is by numismatic artist, Michael Guilfoyle. Struck in .925 sterling silver to proof quality, the coin celebrates
Rory Gallagher’s status as one of the world’s greatest rock guitarists, with a depiction of Rory in a characteristic pose with his
beloved guitar.
Behind the main focal point of the design is a graphic representation of a vinyl record overlaid with a graphic map, alluding to
Rory’s classic live album from 1972, “Live in Europe”. It also highlights his appeal
to an international audience beyond his native Ireland.
Sadly, Rory Gallagher passed away in 1995 at the age of 47, but his music continues to enthral music lovers throughout the world.

Auflage laut Internetseite des eshop der centralbank: 2.000 Stück. Aber auf dem Zertifikat des Fotos steht die Zahl 3000. Die Zahl 3000 wurde mir heute telefonisch bestätigt. Übrigens: Rory Gallagher war der erste Musiker der bei den Rockpalast-Konzerten in der Grugahalle aufgetreten ist. Das war 1977. War leider nicht da. Aber das war ein tolles Konzert. Wurde ja live im WDR-Fernsehen gezeigt.
