With this newsletter we inform you that the Ministry of Finance - General Secretariat of Fiscal Policy is pleased to announce that as of 1/7/2022 745,500 pieces of the new 2€ commemorative circulation coin: “1987-2022 ERASMUS PROGRAMME” with year mark 2022 and issuing volume of 750,000 pieces, will circulate.

The coin’s outer ring features the 12 stars of the European Union. The central field of the coin features the two major elements of the Erasmus programme: the original intellectual inspiration, Erasmus himself, and an allegory of its influence over Europe. The first one is symbolised by one of the most known depictions of Erasmus. The second one is symbolised by a beam of links going across the coin from a beacon to another, representing the numerous intellectual and human exchanges between the European students. As a reference to Europe, some of these links form other stars, born from the synergy between the countries. The figure 35, for the 35th anniversary, comes out from the stars in a contemporary graphical style. Under the words “1987-2022 ERASMUS PROGRAMME”, the name of the issuing country (“HELLENIC REPUBLIC”) is inscribed, as well as the mint mark.

The common side on the commemorative coin and the edge lettering are the same as on regular 2€ coins.
