The collector coin committee announces: a silver collector coin is minted in honour of composer Fredrik Pacius based on Pertti Mäkinen’s proposal “Kuulla ja kokea” (Hear and experience) (4.12.2008)
In March 2009, two hundred years have passed since the birth of composer Fredrik (Friedrich) Pacius. He was born in Germany, but lived the larger part of his life in Finland. Pacius has significantly influenced Finnish music by composing, among others, the Finnish national anthem and the first Finnish opera “The Hunt of King Charles”.
The Collector Coin Committee set by the Finnish Ministry of Finance arranged a public competition for the designing of the coin. A total of 17 proposals were received. The competition was won by sculptor Pertti Mäkinen with his proposal “Kuulla ja kokea” (Hear and experience”), which the jury considered to be sprightly, fresh, and implemented with a light touch. According to the jury, Mäkinen’s proposal was also created using space and symbolism. The artist himself had found the subject of the competition a demanding one and had viewed it through the historical significance of Pacius’ music. Mäkinen says that the curtain of his work “Kuulla ja kokea” (Hear and experience) symbolises the opening of the Finnish opera stage. He also wanted the realization to be spacious, so as to leave room for the viewer’s imagination.
In addition to the winning work of Mäkinen, four other proposals received awards. These were given to sculptor Tapio Kettunen for his proposal “Ääni Suomelle” (“A Voice to Finland”), to architect Markku Viitasalo for his proposal “Satona soiva maa” (“The earth sounds with crop”), to sculptor Reijo Paavilainen for his proposal “Sävel” (“Tune”), and sculptor Pirkko Viitasalo for her work “Lorelei”.
The following persons were members of the jury for the Fredrik Pacius collector coin: as chairman Professor Yrjö Sotamaa from the University of Art and Design, and as members Senior Budget Secretary from the Ministry of Finance Ms Marja Kirppu, CEO of Mint of Finland Ltd Maarit Aarni-Sirviö and curator of the Ateneum Art Museum Heikki Halme. As art expert members acted Pekka Harni, Antti Keitilä, Eero Lintusaari, and Tapani Länsiö. Sinikka Ravander from Mint of Finland Ltd functioned as secretary.
The competition proposals are on display at the Helsinki University of Art and Design during 8th - 12th December, 2008. The address is Hämeentie 135 C, Helsinki.

Birth of the Finnish opera 200 years (6.2.2009)

A silver collector coin will be launched in memory of Fredrik (Friedrich) Pacius at the World Money Fair in Berlin on February 6, 2009. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

Fredrik Pacius, born in Germany, is best known as the composer of the Finnish national anthem, but he also composed the first Finnish opera, "The Hunt of King Charles". The premiere of the opera was one of the most significant cultural events during the period of autonomy and began the success story of Finnish opera.
Sculptor Pertti Mäkinen won the public competition arranged for the design of the coin that was launched at the World Money Fair in Berlin. His proposal “Kuulla ja kokea” (Hear and experience) symbolises the unveiling of the hitherto dormant Finnish opera. The collector coin has a nominal value of 10 euros. Its diameter is 38.6 mm, weight 25.5 g and silver content 92.5 per cent. Up to 35,000 coins are minted, of which 28,000 are minted in proof quality and 7,000 in Bu quality.
“Finnish opera is important to us for two reasons; it has contributed to the construction of a Finnish identity and also made us Finns part of the European cultural heritage. The Finnish opera is a success story that for its part promotes creative Finnish expertise in the world. The collector coin reminds people who love music, Finland fans, travellers and collectors of the groundbreaking significance that Fredrik Pacius’ lifework still carries today," says Maarit Aarni-Sirviö, Mint of Finland’s CEO.

Gibt es schon irgendwelche Aussagen bzw. "Bewegungen" wegen der fehlenden Jahreszahl ? Mir jedenfalls ist nicht bekannt, obwohl dies doch wohl ein gravierder Fehler der Münzprägung bedeutet, oder '?

Man sollte sich nicht allzugroße Hoffnungen auf eine hohe Wertsteigerung machen, auf der 10 Eurosternmünze aus dem Jahre 2006 "Snellman" gibt es auch keine echtes Ausgabejahr, sondern nur den Bezug zum 200. Geburtstag 1806 - 2006.

Thank you for the e-mail. The Mint of Finland released in the beging of the year 2009 the Fredrick Pacius 10€ collector coin. On the coin, exceptionally, the year it is printed is not shown. Only the years when Pacius was born and died are indicated.

Man sollte sich nicht allzugroße Hoffnungen auf eine hohe Wertsteigerung machen, auf der 10 Eurosternmünze aus dem Jahre 2006 "Snellman" gibt es auch keine echtes Ausgabejahr, sondern nur den Bezug zum 200. Geburtstag 1806 - 2006.

Aber da steht wenigstens die Jahreszahl 2006 drauf. Dass die Jahreszahl nicht als echtes Ausgabejahr, sondern als Jahr des Jubiläums geprägt wird, kommt häufiger vor. Aber dass das Ausgabejahr in keinster Weise geprägt wurde, gab es meines Wissens noch nicht.
