On Wednesday 27 October 2010, the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a CZK 200 commemorative silver coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Czech film director, designer and animator Karel Zeman.
The coin was designed by Lenka Nebeská. The obverse side of the coin depicts a composition of figures from Karel Zeman's films – the sorcerer from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, John and Marie from “The Tale of John and Marie” and Sinbad from “A Thousand and One Nights”. The reverse side bears motifs of the submarine, the octopus and the cave from “A Deadly Invention” and the airship from “The Stolen Airship“.
Karel Zeman (1910–1989), an outstanding Czech film director, employed a unique combination of animations, trick shots and highly specific poetry in his films. He became famous for his film “Journey to the Beginning of Time”, which was followed by other well-known and acclaimed films, such as "A Deadly Invention”, “The Fabulous Baron Munchausen”, “The Stolen Airship” and “On the Comet”. Zeman also made a number of very popular animated films, the most famous of which being the Mr Prokouk series, “The Inspiration” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”.
The coin, made of an alloy of silver and copper, is produced by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou. It is minted in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking.

Dnem 27. října 2010 vydává Česká národní banka pamětní stříbrnou dvousetkorunu k 100. výročí narození Karla Zemana. Dvousetkoruna je ražena ze slitiny obsahující 900 dílů stříbra a 100 dílů mědi a vydává se ve dvojím provedení, v běžném (standard) a špičkovém (proof), které se liší povrchovou úpravou a provedením hrany. U mincí špičkové kvality je pole mince vysoce leštěné a reliéf je matován, hrana je hladká s vlysem „ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.900 * 13 g *“. Mince běžné kvality mají hranu vroubkovanou. Průměr mince je 31 mm, hmotnost 13 g a síla je 2,3 mm. Stejně jako u každé ražby mincí jsou i u těchto mincí povoleny odchylky v průměru 0,1 mm a v síle 0,15 mm. V hmotnosti je povolena odchylka nahoru 0,26 g a v obsahu stříbra odchylka nahoru 1%.
Na lícní straně mince je kompozice postav z filmů Karla Zemana – vpředu čaroděj z filmu „Čarodějův učeň“, vlevo Honzík a Mařenka z filmu „Pohádka o Honzíkovi a Mařence“ a vpravo Sindibád z filmu „Pohádky tisíce a jedné noci“. Za postavami je na filmovém pásu označení nominální hodnoty mince se zkratkou peněžní jednotky „200 Kč“, nad ním název státu „ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA“. Značka České mincovny tvořená kompozicí písmen „Č“ a „M“ je umístěna při pravém okraji mince vedle postavy Sindibáda. Na rubu je rovněž kompozice motivů z filmů Karla Zemana – ponorka, chobotnice a jeskyně z filmu „Vynález zkázy“ a vzducholoď z filmu „Ukradená vzducholoď“. Uprostřed mincovního pole vedle vyobrazení vzducholodě je nápis „KAREL ZEMAN“ a letopočty „1910 – 2010“. Značka autorky dvousetkoruny, Lenky Nebeské, DiS., tvořena písmeny „L“ a „N“, je při spodním okraji dvousetkoruny.
Ke každé minci se dodává katalogová karta fialové barvy, na níž je popis mince a její plastické vyobrazení.

The coin is minted from an alloy containing 900 parts silver and 100 parts copper and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge with the inscription “ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.900 * 13 g *”. Normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 31 mm in diameter, weighs 13 g and is 2.3 mm thick. As with any other coins, deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.26 g and silver content of 1% are permitted.
The obverse side of the coin depicts a composition of figures from Karel Zeman's films – the sorcerer from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” at the front, John and Marie from “The Tale of John and Marie” on the left, and Sinbad from “A Thousand and One Nights” on the right. The denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “200 Kč” are located behind the figures on a film strip and the name of the state in Czech “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” is located above it. The mark of the Czech Mint in the form of the letters “Č” and “M” is at the right-hand edge of the coin adjacent to the figure of Sinbad. The reverse side also bears a composition of motifs from Zeman’s films – the submarine, the octopus and the cave from “A Deadly Invention” and the airship from “The Stolen Airship”. The inscription “KAREL ZEMAN” and years “1910–2010” are located in the middle of the coin field. The initials of the designer of the coin, Lenka Nebeská, made up of the letters “L” and “N”, are situated at the bottom edge of the coin.
Each coin comes with a violet catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
