2 Euro-Gemeinschaftsausgabe Baltikum "100 Jahre Unabhängigkeit der Baltikum-Staaten" 2018
...........
Thirdly, highlighting our neighbouring countries with whom we share much of history, Latvijas Banka will dedicate its economic conference in 2018 to the progress of the Baltic–Nordic region. Also, the first coin with a common design of the Baltic States will be developed: in the centenary year the national central banks of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will jointly issue a 2 euro commemorative coin dedicated to the foundation of the three independent states 100 years ago.

2 Euro Gemeinschaftsausgabe Baltische Staaten "100 Jahre Unabhängigkeit" 2018
Gestaltungswettbewerb für baltische Gemeinschaftsausgabe "100 Jahre Unabhängigkeit", 2018
Eesti Pank informiert:
Eesti Pank announces a competition to design a jointly-issued two-euro commemorative coin for the three Baltic states
31.01.2017
Eesti Pank is announcing a competition to design a two-euro commemorative coin dedicated to the centenary of the three Baltic states. The coin will mark the approaching 100th anniversary of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and will enter into circulation in all three countries simultaneously at the start of 2018. Both individuals and groups of authors are welcome to participate in the design competition. The design for the coin will be chosen through a public vote online.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Baltic States, the central banks of the Baltic States − Eesti Pank, Latvijas Banka and Lietuvos Bankas − plan to issue a 2 euro commemorative coin with a common design on the national side, in the beginning of 2018. When received as a means of payment, this 2 euro coin has to remind the citizens of the Baltic States and elsewhere in the euro area of the determination of the Baltic nations to defend their statehood, acquired 100 years ago or re-established again. At the same time the coin has to be a testimony of the unity of the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian nations and their readiness to cooperate for the sake of their independence and freedom.
The juries of the central banks of the three Baltic states will each select two of the designs submitted in their country in the first round of the competition, and the chosen designs will progress to the second round and the public vote. The results of the first round will not be published. Two designs from each country will be entered anonymously in the second round of the competition and the final result will be decided by an online vote. The exact conditions for the online vote will be published once the central banks have made their initial choice.
Designs submitted as competition entries should only be for the national side of the coin. The design should contain elements that make it clear that the coin is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the independence of all three Baltic states. The compulsory elements of the design are the year 2018 and the word "Baltics", which will be replaced by the national name of the issuing country for each coin, Eesti, Latvija or Lietuva. The design should also use the circle of twelve stars around the whole national part of the design. The twelve stars must appear as they do on the standard two-euro circulation coin.
The detailed rules for the competition and procedures of the judging panel for the design of the two-euro commemorative coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the independence of the Baltic states
The deadline for the submission of correctly formatted designs is 6 March 2017 at 12.00. Designs with a one-word title should be sent in a sealed envelope to Eesti Pank by the deadline to: Mündižürii, Eesti Pank, Estonia pst 13, 15095 Tallinn.
The results of the online vote will be announced by 30 June 2017 at the latest. Candidates who get through to the second round will receive an award of 1000 euros for each successful design. Once the coin is released, the winning designer will receive a prize of 1500 euros.
The central banks of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will jointly issue two-euro commemorative coin into circulation in early 2018.

A common 2 euro commemorative coin to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Baltic States
The central banks of the three Baltic States have agreed on issuing a common 2 euro commemorative coin in 2018 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Latvian and Estonian states and the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Lithuanian statehood. The design of the coin will be selected by the population of the Baltic States in an online vote.
Together with the Lithuanian and Estonian colleagues, Latvijas Banka has already started the preparations for selecting the design as all three countries will present their ideas for the design of this 2 euro commemorative coin. Latvia intends to invite artists to compete for the best concept. Overall six concepts, two from each country, will be presented for popular vote this spring. The vote will be held on a dedicated website to be announced later.
The creation of the first common commemorative coin of the Baltic States in cooperation with our closest neighbours is one of the top highlights in the overall programme of events to be implemented by Latvijas Banka in the context of the centenary of our state.
Latvijas Banka is actively involved in the programme for Latvia's centenary celebration. The programme is based on the concept of involving the general public, each individual and institution in the process of creating the celebration and the associated long-lasting values. Preparations for Latvia's centenary will commence with the tasks and events planned already for 2017, but the festivities and activities celebrating Latvia will continue for five years. Latvijas Banka will contribute to Latvia's centenary programme by ensuring research on significant developments in the financial history of Latvia and assessment of the contribution of outstanding personalities. Also, a number of commemorative and collector coin series and several coins dedicated to the foundation of an independent state will be created. Latvijas Banka will conclude Latvia's centenary celebration by marking the 100th anniversary of the national central bank on 1 November 2022.
Latvijas Banka continues the tradition of minting circulation coins of special design in Latvia. Each year, every euro area country is entitled to issue two 2 euro commemorative coins as well as one more commemorative coin within a joint programme of several euro area countries provided that such a programme is organised.
